It’s critical to get the post length exactly right with this and the standard Patt. Luckily Adornmonde is very helpful with exchanging the size.
My recommendation for using this in a Helix is to make sure the jewelry isn’t deforming the outer edge of your ear. If it is, you’re sure to have swelling and discomfort within a week. If it’s too loose, the jewelry will flop down and not stay where it belongs, so this is a fine balance.
These really are not bad to insert for yourself. The threaded end is nice and long so it’s easy to get it started, and the piece itself provides you something to hang onto with your fingertips. The piece tightens opposite from the usual “lefty loosey”.
For maximum comfort at night, rotate the piece down and let it dangle (check that it’s screwed in snug, but I haven’t had a problem). Sleep that way and put them back in the morning. This has resolved my cartilage irritation from years of sleeping on a gold seamless ring.
And from personal experience, if you’re playing with this while hanging over a sink, do put a wash rag over the drain to avoid having to spend half an afternoon with a mechanic’s finger fishing around in the u-bend.
I love how these look and feel. I’m wearing one Fat Patt and two regular Patt in this photo.
