3 helix earrings that look elite and feel incredible to wear
Three of our favorite helix earrings: Patt and Fat Patt, Ellis, and Tayo. All solid 14k gold. All flat backs.
You didn't go through getting your helix pierced to wear an earring you don't love. But looking good is only half of it. You also want something that feels comfortable enough to leave alone and leave in.
These are three of our favorite options: Patt and Fat Patt, Ellis, and Tayo. All solid 14k gold. All flat backs. Here's what makes each one worth putting in your helix.
1. Patt and Fat Patt: a hoop that hugs your helix
If you love the look of a hoop but haven't loved wearing one in your helix, meet Patt.
Its curved gold front gently cups the edge of your cartilage, helping limit that back-and-forth movement of the post. It's the detail we love most: the shape does more than look good. It helps the earring sit comfortably in place.
You get the look of a hoop, but a straight post goes through your piercing, with a flat back tucked behind your ear.
Patt is the original. Fat Patt is its chunkier brother, with a fuller curve of solid 14k gold. Both give you that close, hugged finish around the helix.
2. Ellis: your helix, with a pear diamond
Its pear-shaped lab diamond looks elite in a helix. That unexpected shape makes the whole piercing feel editorial.
Ellis's comfortable flat-back setting makes it a popular choice for the helix. Available in diamond heights of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 mm, you can go tiny or make a statement.
And if you've been wanting a bigger diamond, this is your moment. Yes, the 7 mm can work beautifully here. Just make sure your helix has enough room for the setting to sit comfortably without pressing into the fold of your ear.
You didn't go through all that for your helix to look basic.
3. Tayo: two hoops, one helix piercing
If you love a double helix but don't particularly want to get another piercing, Tayo gets it.
Two curved gold ridges wrap around the edge of your ear, giving you the look of two hoops through one piercing. Behind them is a single straight post and a flat back.
Like Patt, the curved front gently cups the cartilage. But those two ridges give Tayo a fuller, layered look. You get more happening in your helix without adding another post, or another piercing to heal.
It's a clever little illusion. Two hoops from the front, one flat back behind.
The bit you need to get right: the fit
Once you've found the earring you love, make sure it fits your helix.
With Patt, Fat Patt, and Tayo, the curved front should cup the edge of your cartilage without squeezing it. With Ellis, the diamond needs enough space to sit without pressing into the surrounding ear.
Then there's the post. The right length depends on your ear and where you are in healing. Don't assume the shortest will be the most comfortable. Have your piercer check the fit if you're unsure.
If your helix is still healing or irritated, let your piercer assess it before changing the jewelry. Our helix piercing guide covers post length, hoop size and when it's ready for a change.
You've already got the helix. Put something special in it.
